Job summary

VSP Vision is seeking a part-time fill-in Optometrist for Carlsbad, CA to join Carlsbad Optometry. This role offers flexible scheduling with a minimum commitment of one 8-hour shift per month, primarily covering PTO as needed.

You will deliver comprehensive eye care with advanced technology in a community-focused practice. Whether you are a recent graduate or an experienced professional, you will provide patient-centered exams, guidance on specialty contacts, myopia management, and glaucoma care

Qualifications

• OD degree and state licensure (TPA) to practice in California.
• 1–3 years of clinical optometry experience preferred; new grads welcome.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive eye exams and prescriptions.

What you'll do:

This is a part-time fill-in position, offering a flexible schedule with a minimum commitment of one 8-hour shift per month, primarily providing coverage for PTO as needed. You'll care for approximately 16 to 22 patients per day, performing comprehensive eye exams, recommending vision-enhancing solutions, and promoting long-term eye health through patient education. Experience with specialty contact lenses, myopia management, and glaucoma treatment is a plus and will support care for a diverse patient population. You'll use modern technology such as Optos imaging, the HERO Visual Field Headset, auto phoropter, and OCT, while following an accommodative exam template to deliver a thorough, engaging exam experience. Working alongside an experienced and supportive team, you'll collaborate to ensure the best possible outcomes for every patient.

The ideal candidate provides comprehensive, patient-centered eye care to individuals of all ages, with experience performing comprehensive eye exams, contact lens evaluations, glaucoma testing and treatment, and co-management of diabetic eye disease, cataract surgery, and LASIK. You take pride in caring for a diverse patient population and are an attentive listener who genuinely prioritizes patient comfort, health, and safety. Specialty contact lens experience is preferred, as well as proven leadership, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and a compassionate approach to care. Job Specifications

• Doctor of Optometry degree, O.D. including Third Party Administrator (TPA) certificate of licensure
• 1-3 years of clinical practice experience with current knowledge of Optometric technology and practices; new graduates are encouraged to apply
