Job details

  • Geisinger's Lewistown Eye Clinic is a satellite branch of the well-renowned Geisinger Eye Institute: a driven, successful, and growing multi-specialty group integrating both optometric and ophthalmologic services.
  • Ability to take on a growing practice complete with onsite Comprehensive Ophthalmology, Cataract, and Pediatric services, as well as a built-in referral network to offsite Retina, Glaucoma, Oculoplastics, and other subspecialties.
  • Experience or Residency training preferred.
  • Our highly trained Optometrists practice medical optometry, to the highest scope of practice, working closely and co-managing patients with our ophthalmologists.

An optometrist is a doctor of optometry, an OD. A healthcare professional licensed to provide primary eye care services. They examine and diagnose eye diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts, and retinal diseases; diagnose related systemic conditions such as hypertension and diabetes that may affect the eyes; examine, diagnose, and treat visual conditions such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and presbyopia; and prescribe glasses, contact lenses, low-vision rehabilitation, and medications. Optometrists also perform minor surgical procedures such as the removal of foreign bodies.

  • Interview patients to obtain information such as symptoms, medical histories, and family histories. Perform and/or interpret diagnostic tests as needed.
  • Diagnose and design a treatment plan for injuries and/or illnesses. May prescribe or administer medications. Prepare, maintain, and review records that include patients' histories, examination findings, treatment plans, or outcomes.
