Job summary

The US Navy is looking for licensed Optometrists and graduating Doctors of Optometry to serve as commissioned Officers in the Navy Medical Service Corps. This role includes serving the eye-care needs of military personnel globally.

Responsibilities include performing eye examinations, managing ocular diseases, and providing patient education. Candidates must graduate from an accredited O.D. program and be licensed to practice in the US. Job description

The U.S. Navy is seeking licensed Optometrists and graduating Doctors of Optometry (O.D.) to serve as commissioned Officers in the Navy Medical Service Corps. As a Navy Optometrist you will serve the routine and acute eye‑care needs of military personnel, their families and those in need around the globe.

Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive eye examinations & vision assessments
  • Diagnose and manage ocular disease and visual disorders
  • Prescribe corrective lenses and treatment plans
  • Provide patient education and preventive eye care services
  • Surgical co‑management
  • Subspecialty focuses such as low vision, traumatic brain injury rehab, specialty contact lenses and more
  • Competitive salary and officer compensation pay
  • Up to $120,000-$170,000+ total yearly compensation depending on experience, rank and incentives

Qualifications
  • Age: Commission before the age of 42 (age waivers, accepted case‑by‑case basis)
  • Education: Graduate with Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree from an accredited institution by the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education
  • License: Currently licensed and practicing in the U.S. (new graduates must obtain a license within one year of beginning Active Duty service)

Active Duty Service Obligation: 3-4 years

Full‑time active duty position as a Navy Officer in the Medical Service Corps (MSC).
