Duty Hours:
Monday through Friday from 0630 – 1800
SUMMARY:
Serves as the full-time primary eye care provider for the Warfighter Refractive Eye Surgery Program (WRESP), performing the full range of professional optometric duties with a major emphasis on the pre-operative evaluation of refractive surgery patients and the post-operative management of these patients with the assistance of staff ophthalmologists.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree/Education: Doctor of Optometry from an accredited school or college approved by the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education (ACOE) of the American Optometric Association.
- Certifications: None beyond Basic Life Support.
- Experience: At least one year of practice as an optometrist within the last two years.
- Board Certification: Not required, but recognized certifications include Fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO), American Board of Optometry (ABO), and The American Board of Certification in Medical Optometry (ABCMO).
- Licensure/Registration: Valid, unrestricted license in any of the 50 states, D.C., Puerto Rico, Guam, or U.S. Virgin Islands. Additional licenses must be in good standing, regardless of activity status.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Examine, diagnose, treat, or prescribe for diseases, injuries, or disorders of the visual system and related systemic conditions.
- Promote prevention, wellness, vision conservation, education, screenings, and positive eye health behaviors.
- Conduct complex vision research that may involve innovative approaches, leading to significant findings or improvements.
- Provide professional recommendations on optometric issues of national importance.
- Deliver comprehensive clinical services for complex optometric patient conditions.
