We are currently seeking a licensed Optometrist to work collaboratively with our Ophthalmology Department. Full Time or Part Time opportunity. The Optometrist will provide primary eye care through a comprehensive eye examination for both adult and pediatric patients.
Essential Job Functions
- Obtain medical and ocular history
- Perform visual acuity tests using projected eye charts to measure distance visual acuity and hand-held acuity chart to measure near vision
- Test for color blindness
- Assess eye alignment with cover/uncover testing
- Evaluate ocular motility and stereopsis
- Perform retinoscopy and use a phoropter to determine the patient’s prescription for glasses and or contact lenses
- Proficient in the use of an autorefractor and aberrometer
- Proficient in the use of a slit lamp to perform a binocular microscopy to examine the structures of the front of the eye including eyelids, cornea, conjunctiva, iris, anterior chamber and lens
- Measure intraocular pressure using Goldman or non-contact tonometers
- Must be able to perform a dilated retinal exam
- Proficient in ancillary testing, including OCT, Visual Field Testing, Ocular A-Scan, B-Scan and Corneal Topography
- Needs to be familiar with ocular medications, various types of contact lenses and punctual plugs
- Display competency in medical decision making, test ordering and billing.
- Proficient with use of EMR including dictation and signing of notes in a timely manner. Employs timely use and management of tasks in EMR.
- Promote team atmosphere amongst colleagues and staff. Work effectively with staff.
- Assumes accountability for the quality of care, which he/she has delivered including maintaining standard precautions.
- Communicates and provides care consistent with age, cultural, spiritual and developmental needs of the patient.
- Fulfill annual CME requirements.
- Maintain NJ State License.
- Maintain professional memberships.
Requirements Of The Optometrist
- Doctor of Optometry degree (OD) from an accredited medical school
- NJ License to practice
- Minimum 1 year of experience required
- Excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills
