Job description

2020 Onsite is the leader in mobile vision care. Since 2014, our Mobile Vision Clinics have provided eye care to over 75,000 patients at their workplaces, schools and neighborhoods. In May 2020, we expanded our services to provide vital access to clinical trial assessments and tests, bringing uniquely equipped Mobile Clinics directly to participants. Our focus is “radical patient-centricity”, prioritizing the patient experience, minimizing time and distance barriers.

20/20 Onsite also brings free, comprehensive eye exams and glasses directly to students where they learn — removing the transportation, cost, and scheduling barriers that keep kids from getting the vision care they need to succeed in school.

The opportunity:

20/20 Onsite is seeking a licensed optometrist to provide comprehensive eye exams to students in Boston Public Schools. This is a contracted, flexible-schedule position: you choose anywhere from one to five days per week based on your availability. Exams are conducted either aboard our mobile vision clinic or on-site within school buildings. Every student we see receives a free eye exam, and any student who needs corrective lenses receives a free pair of glasses.

This role is a great fit for an optometrist looking for flexible, meaningful, community-based work that fits around an existing practice or schedule.

Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive pediatric eye exams for students in Boston Public Schools, either on our mobile clinic or in a designated space within the school.
  • Diagnose refractive errors and other vision issues, and prescribe corrective lenses as needed.
  • Accurately document exam findings and prescriptions in accordance with clinical and program standards.
  • Communicate exam results and recommendations clearly to school staff and families as needed.
  • Maintain a warm, patient bedside manner suited to working with children.
  • Ensure all exams and services are delivered in compliance with applicable state licensing and clinical standards.
Qualifications
  • Active, unrestricted Optometrist license in Massachusetts (OD).
  • Comfortable and experienced working with pediatric patients.
  • Reliable and punctual, with strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a mobile clinic or school-based setting.
  • Prior experience with school-based or community vision programs is a plus, but not required.
  • Exams take place Monday through Friday, generally between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
  • You select your own schedule, from 1 to 5 days per week, based on your availability.
  • Work locations rotate across Boston Public Schools; exams are conducted either aboard 20/20 Onsite's mobile vision clinic or inside the school itself.
Compensation
  • $700 per day, paid as an independent contractor (1099).
