LINE OF SIGHT, a boutique eye care studio in New York City, is seeking a Part or Full-Time Optometric Technician who is warm, detail-oriented, and clinically curious. You’ll prepare patients for examinations, perform diagnostic testing, support our doctors, and help maintain a smooth clinical flow.

Experience as an optometric technician or medical assistant is ideal. You’ll work with advanced diagnostic equipment (OCT, visual fields, corneal topography), receive hands-on training, and enjoy

  • Experience as an optometric/ophthalmic technician or medical assistant in patient-facing roles.
  • Interest in eye care, medical technology, wellness, and patient education.
  • Ability to learn new equipment and clinical workflows quickly.

Responsibilities

  • Review and document medical, ocular, medication, and surgical histories.
  • Identify patient concerns and communicate them to the doctor.
  • Perform preliminary testing and diagnostic procedures (meibography, OCT, visual fields).
  • Prepare examination rooms, instruments, and supplies for patient visits.
  • Assist doctors during comprehensive, medical, contact lens, dry eye, and specialty visits.
  • Support specialty contact lens evaluations including scleral lenses and Ortho-K.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic health record.
  • Clean and disinfect equipment and maintain clinical rooms according to safety protocols.

Job description

LINE OF SIGHT is not your average eye doctor’s office. We’re a boutique eye care studio in New York City that combines advanced vision care with holistic wellness and ocular aesthetics. We’re looking for a Part or Full-Time Optometric Technician who is warm, detail-oriented, and clinically curious. You’ll play an essential role in preparing patients for their examinations, performing diagnostic testing, supporting our doctors, and keeping the clinical experience running smoothly. And have the opportunity to work closely with and learn from Dr. Jennifer Tsai, a nationally recognized optometrist, entrepreneur, clinical researcher, and leading voice in modern eye care.

What you'll do
  • Review and document medical, ocular, medication, and surgical histories
  • Identify the patient’s primary concerns and accurately communicate them to the doctor
  • Perform preliminary testing, including meibography, fundus, lensometry, autorefraction, tonometry
  • Conduct diagnostic testing such as OCT, visual fields, corneal topography, and more
  • Prepare examination rooms, instruments, and supplies before each patient encounter
  • Assist doctors during comprehensive, medical, contact lens, dry eye, and specialty eye care visits
  • Support specialty contact lens evaluations, including scleral lenses and Ortho-K
  • Assist with in-office dry eye and ocular wellness treatments
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation in the electronic health record
  • Clean and disinfect equipment and maintain clinical rooms according to safety protocols
  • Monitor inventory and communicate when clinical supplies need to be reordered
  • Help maintain an efficient patient flow while ensuring no patient feels rushed or overlooked
  • Communicate closely with doctors, hosts, and optical team members to provide a seamless experience
You're the right fit if you
  • Have experience as an optometric or ophthalmic technician, medical assistant, or in another patient-facing healthcare role
  • Are interested in eye care, medical technology, wellness, and patient education
  • Learn new equipment and clinical workflows quickly
  • Have exceptional attention to detail and understand the importance of accurate documentation
  • Communicate with warmth, patience, and professionalism
  • Are proactive and able to anticipate what the doctor and patient may need
  • Stay calm and organized in a fast-paced clinical environment
  • Can manage multiple responsibilities without sacrificing accuracy or service
  • Are dependable, punctual, and comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively
  • Welcome feedback and continuously look for ways to improve

Previous optometry or ophthalmology experience and familiarity with OCT, visual field testing, fundus photography, corneal topography, dry eye testing, and specialty contact lenses are strongly preferred.

Compensation

$19-$25 per hour, depending on experience
