Job summary

Hero Practice Services is seeking an Optometric Assistant to administer visual tests, operate diagnostic equipment, and assist with eyewear fittings. The role reports to the Lead Optometric Assistant and offers opportunities for growth within the practice and region.

The position pays $15.75–$17.50 per hour, plus monthly bonus opportunities, PTO, and a benefits package including medical, dental, vision insurance, and 401K. Prior vision-practice experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Experience in a vision practice is a plus.
• Ability to tech, scribe, and perform optometric tasks.
• Strong communication skills.
• Proficient in EHR systems.
• Ability to train and lead a team of Optometric Assistants.
• Multitask and complete tasks correctly and on time.
• Knowledge of optometric software, Intero Order processing, Google Docs, and Document Portal Spreadsheet.
• Bilingual a plus.

Responsibilities

• Understand, monitor, and ensure smooth execution of office processes, including coding and optometric materials, insurance benefits, patient collection, and documentation.
• Call patients regarding appointment confirmations, reminders, cancellations, no shows, and recalls.
• Support optometrists during eye exams by preparing patient, performing initial pre-tests, and recording results.
• Accompany patients and parents during exams to pre-test the patient and assist Optometrist in scribing and finding a good fit for glasses.
• Perform vision tests such as visual acuity, color vision, stereo, confrontations, pupils, ICT, and administer dilation drops.
• Help patients select frames and lenses based on prescriptions.
• Process patient payments during check-in and check-out.
• Ensure practice is clean and presentable to patients (restrooms, lobby, mopping, vacuuming, dusting).
• Participate in other duties supporting high-quality and compassionate services for underserved children.

Position Overview

Job Qualifications

• Previous experience in a vision practice is a plus
• Ability to tech, scribe, and perform optometric tasks
• Strong communication skills

• Ability to multitask and complete tasks correctly and on time
• Preferred knowledge of optometric online software/database, Intero Order processing systems, Google Docs, and Document Portal Spreadsheet software
• Bilingual a plus
