Job summary

The MedElite Group is seeking a reliable Optometric Technician to join our team. You will assist optometrists with eye exams and vision testing in skilled nursing and long-term care facilities during travel assignments.

This position supports geriatric patients, requires documentation of findings, and maintenance of equipment, with travel to facilities across the region. Prior optometry/ophthalmic experience and certification are preferred but not required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of Optometric/Ophthalmic Technician training preferred.
• Certification (CPO, ABO) preferred but not required.
• Prior experience in optometry or ophthalmology strongly preferred.
• Experience in skilled nursing or long-term care settings a plus.
• Excellent communication and patient-care skills; strong attention to detail.
• Ability to travel to facilities as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Assist optometrists with comprehensive eye exams and vision testing.
• Perform preliminary testing including visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and autorefractor measurements.
• Prepare patients for examinations by explaining procedures and ensuring comfort.
• Administer basic diagnostic tests such as visual field testing and retinal imaging.
• Document patient history, test results, and clinical findings.
• Maintain and clean ophthalmic equipment in accordance with safety standards.
• Support eyeglass fittings, adjustments, and patient education as needed.
• Travel to skilled nursing and long-term care facilities as assigned.

Job Summary

In this role, you will assist optometrists with vision exams and eye health assessments for patients in skilled nursing and long-term care facilities. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with clinical providers while supporting the early detection and management of vision conditions in a geriatric population.

Responsibilities

• Assist optometrists with comprehensive eye exams and vision testing
• Perform preliminary testing, including visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and autorefractor measurements
• Prepare patients for examinations by explaining procedures and ensuring comfort
• Administer basic diagnostic tests such as visual field testing and retinal imaging
• Accurately document patient history, test results, and clinical findings
• Maintain and clean ophthalmic equipment in compliance with safety and infection control standards
• Support eyeglass fittings, adjustments, and patient education as needed
• Collaborate with optometrists, advanced practice providers, and facility staff
• Travel to skilled nursing and long-term care facilities as assigned

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Completion of an Optometric Technician or Ophthalmic Technician training program preferred
• Certification (e.g., CPO, ABO) preferred but not required
• Prior experience in optometry or ophthalmology strongly preferred
• Experience in skilled nursing or long-term care settings a plus
• Strong attention to detail and technical proficiencyExcellent communication and patient-care skills
• Comfortable working with the geriatric population
• Prolonged standing/walking. Assisting with patient positioning. Operating diagnostic equipment. Lifting/moving patients.
• Ability to travel as needed
