Job summary

Midwest Eye Consultants in Shelbyville is seeking a friendly Optometric Clinic Technician to join our team. No prior medical experience is required; we provide hands-on training with experienced trainers and a mentor to help you learn everything you need to succeed.

This part-time, on-site role offers $16.00–$18.00 per hour, with 6.5 paid holidays and PTO early in employment. You will collect patient information, assist with eye tests, prepare exam rooms, and help create a welcoming patient

What Does an Optometric Technician Do:

Our technicians play an important role in patient care. You will work closely with doctors and patients to help ensure each visit runs smoothly and that doctors have the information they need to provide excellent care.

In this role you will

• Collect important patient information and histories


• Perform preliminary and ancillary eye testing


• Prepare patients for their eye exams


• Help create a positive and welcoming patient experience

• Perform preliminary and doctor requested tests on patients


• Assist optometrists and ophthalmologists during patient procedures


• Coordinate patient scheduling and help maintain smooth patient flow throughout the office while communicating delays when needed


• Prepare exam rooms by cleaning instruments and maintaining inventory of medications and supplies


• Help maintain a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming environment for both patients and staff


• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the office manager, team lead, or doctors

Physical Demand

This position requires

• Standing for extended periods of time


• Stooping, grasping, lifting, talking, and hearing

Physical requirements include

• Ability to regularly lift up to 15 pounds from floor to waist


• Ability to lift 5 pounds from waist to shoulder


• Ability to lift 5 pounds from shoulder to overhead


• Visual acuity to ensure accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness in assigned work
