General Summary
Responsible for assisting the doctor with providing thorough comprehensive visual exams, medical exams, office visits, in-office minor medical procedures, and contact lens follow-ups by performing preliminary testing, electronic medical record entries, contact lens classes, support duties, and post exam follow-up.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
- Perform visual preliminary testing including auto refraction, intra-ocular pressure, neutralizing prescription eyewear, blood pressure, visual acuity, motility testing, pupil assessment, confrontation fields, anterior chamber angle assessment, dilation, and other related tasks.
- Document all testing and patient information into the electronic medical record, including chief complaints, medical history, medications, social history, and prescriptions.
- Escort patients through the exam process and transfer them to the appropriate department such as Eyewear Consultation, Dispenser, or Customer Service.
- Educate patients on contact lens handling, wearing schedules, care, and the importance of owning prescription glasses.
- Adhere to scheduling guidelines and time allocations for testing and record entries per appointment.
- Interpret doctor’s prescriptions and suggest suitable products and enhancements.
- Complete all required training and educational programs to perform job responsibilities effectively.
- Address customer concerns and questions, directing them to appropriate sources when necessary.
- Manage multiple customers tactfully and efficiently.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous computer experience and basic math skills preferred.
- Experience in customer service or optometric technology preferred.
- Knowledge of electronic medical records preferred.
- Retail, hospitality, or customer service experience preferred.
- Ability to walk, bend, and stand for extended periods.
- Completion of all training courses as directed by Henry Ford Optimeyes.
- Meet or exceed customer service standards outlined in the HFHS Customer Service Policy.
Working Conditions
- Work in a retail optical environment.
- Requires evening and weekend hours.
