Qualifications

• Background in materials science or metallurgy.
• Experience with failure analysis and metals under extreme conditions.
• Knowledge of material selection and corrosion/wear performance.
• Experience designing precision mechanical structures for optical/photonic systems.
• Strong fundamentals in engineering.
• Ability to perform trade studies using first principles.
• Experience in fast-paced, entrepreneurial engineering environments.

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanisms and structures for enrichment from requirements to production.
• Select materials and coatings for hardware based on performance.
• Optimize designs for cost, performance, and manufacturability.
• Test hardware thermally, vibrationally, and durably; perform precision alignment for optical assemblies.
• Perform root-cause analysis on failures and develop mitigations.
• Collaborate to characterize material behavior under process conditions and inform design.
• Participate in design reviews to ensure objectives are met.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams to integrate designs with system requirements.
