Job summary

Thorlabs in Newton, NJ, is seeking a part-time/full-time Inspector to assure vendor and manufacturing compliance with ISO9001 standards. You will perform visual and dimensional inspections of precision optics and mechanical components, using loupes, microscopes, calipers, and indicators.

This role involves recording results and ensuring pass/fail decisions. Required: high school diploma and 1 year of related experience; strong attention to detail and ability to read drawings.

Qualifications

• 1 year experience in a similar position preferred.
• High School Diploma or equivalent work experience.
• Ability to learn, understand, and apply sampling plans.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Capable of reading mechanical drawings and tolerances.
• Adaptable to process and procedure changes.
• Cross-trains in all department areas.

Responsibilities

• Perform visual and dimensional inspection of optics and mechanical components.
• Identify non-conformances and pass/fail decisions per inspection methods.
• Inspect parts under microscopes and metrology devices with attention to detail.
• Maintain records in Manufacturing Database and communicate findings.
• Ensure compliance with ISO9001 quality standards and company safety.
• Handle and clean specialty fiber optics and related parts.
• Collaborate with peers/vendors to maintain quality and productivity.
• Observe instructions, ask questions when unclear.
