Job summary

Draper is seeking optics-physics co-ops and interns in Cambridge, MA to support R&D of precision inertial guidance and imaging instruments. You will assist with optical/electronic design, model development, materials testing, and hardware assembly, testing, and debugging using LabVIEW, MATLAB, Python, and related tools.

The position runs for 6 months (January–June 2027) for students in physics, materials science, or electrical engineering with hands-on experience. U.S.

Qualifications

• Physics, materials science, or electrical engineering student with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
• Hands-on engineering experience in optical/electro-optical systems is desirable.
• Familiarity with LabVIEW, MATLAB, Python or similar tools is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Support R&D of precision inertial guidance and imaging instruments.
• Contribute to electro-optical design, optical/thermal model development, materials testing, and electrical system design.
• Assemble hardware, run tests, and debug equipment; document results in GitLab.
