Job summary

Materion seeks a Thin Film Engineer to join our Precision Optics and Thin Film Coatings team in Westford, MA. You will help design optical coatings and generate detailed manufacturing plans while maintaining existing PVD processes.

The role requires a BS in Optics or Photonics and experience with metrology tools like spectrophotometry and interferometry, plus problem solving in a high-mix setting. Strong communication and independent work skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Optics or Photonics.
  • Experience in a low volume / high mix product environment is an asset.
  • Experience with SPC, Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing skills in problem solving, statistics, manufacturing quality, and quality principles.
  • Ability to understand, analyze, and resolve complex technical problems.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel and MS Project or similar planning software.

Responsibilities

  • Expose to optical coating design, generation of detailed manufacturing plans, and maintenance of existing PVD processes.
  • Work within the Precision Optics and Thin Film Coatings team to drive process improvements.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and suppliers to ensure quality and on-time delivery.

Thin Film Engineers will be exposed to optical coating design, generation of detailed manufacturing plans and maintenance of existing PVD processes. Ideal candidates must possess strong technical skills, the ability to perform complex problem solving, and a passion for continued education and learning opportunities.
