Job summary

Sea Mar Community Health Centers seeks a detail-oriented Optician at White Center Medical Clinic near Seattle, WA. This full-time position involves fitting glasses and contact lenses, interpreting prescriptions, and ensuring accurate work orders for labs.

Qualifications

  • Certification as an Optician in Washington State is required.
  • This includes completion of an accredited opticianry program, completion of an apprenticeship in Washington, or five years' dispensing optician experience outside Washington.
  • Passing ABOTO and NCLE exams after May 31, 2015, or WA exam before Sep 1, 2017.
  • Strong understanding of optical products, lens technologies, and frame styles.
  • Excellent attention to detail and precision in measurements.
  • Outstanding customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems effectively.
  • Basic knowledge of inventory management and ordering processes.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients in selecting eyeglass frames and lenses based on prescriptions and lifestyle needs.
  • Educate patients on proper wear and care of glasses and contacts.
  • Train patients on inserting/removing contact lenses.
  • Obtain and interpret prescriptions to create work orders for optical labs.
  • Take precise eye/face measurements for a perfect glasses fit.
  • Adjust frames for comfort and alignment of lenses.
  • Verify completed glasses meet prescription and quality standards.
  • Order and maintain inventory of optical supplies.
  • Track stock levels to ensure availability of items.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve patient complaints about glasses.
  • Repair and maintain eyeglass frames.
  • Maintain basic inventory management and ordering processes.

Position Title: Optician

Location: White Center Medical Clinic near Seattle, WA

Compensation: Hourly Rate: $25.00; Annual Salary: $52,000

Position Summary: We are seeking a detail-oriented and patient-focused Optician to join our team. This full-time position will help patients achieve optimal vision by fitting them with appropriate glasses and contact lenses. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of optical products, a keen eye for detail, and excellent interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities
  • Assisting patients in selecting eyeglass frames and lenses based on prescriptions, lifestyle needs, and aesthetic preferences.
  • Providing education on how to properly wear and care for glasses and contact lenses.
  • Training patients on the correct insertion and removal techniques for contact lenses.
  • Obtaining and interpreting prescriptions from the optometrist to create accurate work orders for optical labs.
  • Taking precise measurements of patients' eyes and facial features to ensure a perfect fit for glasses.
  • Adjusting frames to fit patients comfortably and ensuring proper alignment of lenses.
  • Verifying that completed glasses meet prescription requirements and quality standards before dispensing.
  • Ordering and maintaining inventory of optical supplies, including frames, lenses, and related products.
  • Tracking stock levels to ensure availability of popular and essential items.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving patients' complaints regarding glasses, such as fit issues or visual discomfort.
  • Repairing and maintaining eyeglass frames to ensure longevity and proper function.
  • Maintaining basic inventory management and ordering processes.
Qualifications
  • Previous experience as an Optician or in a related field is preferred.
  • Certification as an Optician in Washington State required. This includes completion of an accredited opticianry program, completion of an apprenticeship program in Washington, or having practiced as a dispensing optician outside of Washington for at least five years.
  • Passing all four standardized examinations of the American Board of Opticianry and National Contact Lens Examiners after May 31, 2015; or passing the Washington state examination before September 1, 2017.
  • Strong understanding of optical products, lens technologies, and frame styles.
  • Excellent attention to detail and precision in measurements.
  • Outstanding customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems effectively.
  • Basic knowledge of inventory management and ordering processes.
