Job summary

MMF Vision Center is seeking an experienced Optician to oversee the optical department within our ophthalmology practice. You will provide advanced optical expertise, supervise staff, and ensure accurate interpretation and fulfillment of prescriptions.

This role also manages inventory and vendor relationships, monitors financial performance, and delivers exceptional patient service. You will collaborate with ophthalmologists, optometrists, technicians, and administrative personnel to maintain

Qualifications

• ABO certification highly preferred.

Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

The Optician oversees the daily operations of the optical department within an ophthalmology practice.

This role is responsible for providing advanced optical expertise, supervising optician staff, ensuring accurate interpretation and fulfillment of prescriptions, managing inventory and vendor relationships, monitoring financial performance, and delivering exceptional patient service. The Optician works collaboratively with ophthalmologists, optometrists, technicians, and administrative personnel to ensure high-quality optical care and a consistent, efficient workflow.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Licensure/Certification:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• ABO Certification (American Board of Opticianry) highly preferred.
• NCLE Certification (National Contact Lens Examiners) preferred.

Knowledge/Experience:

• Minimum 3 years of experience as an optician required.
• Strong knowledge of ophthalmic lenses, frames, measurements, and dispensing protocols required.
• Prior supervisory or lead experience in an optical or medical setting preferred.
• Experience working in an ophthalmology practice or medical optical shop.
• Familiarity with Medicare, VSP, EyeMed, and insurance/vision plan billing.
