POSITION SUMMARY:

An optician is an eyewear consultant, educating patients on doctor recommendations that will give them the best possible vision. The eyewear consultant advises patients on the best lens options for their prescription and creates a fun shopping environment through fashionable eyewear selection. Strong communication skills and the ability to build long-lasting relationships are essential. Additionally, the optician maintains displays of optical merchandise and inventory, utilizing administrative and creative skills. Administrative duties include calculating co-pays based on insurance and preparing work orders for the optical lab.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist patients in selecting spectacles, educating on quality, lens options, and frame styles suitable for their lifestyle and prescription
• Calculate insurance co-pays based on eligibility
• Enter spectacle orders accurately and monitor their status to ensure timely delivery
• Receive orders into the system, verify, notify patients, and schedule dispensing
• Follow up with patients on adaptation progress
• Perform adjustments and repairs as needed
• Troubleshoot eyewear concerns
• Maintain inventory of optical supplies and report as required
• Maintain optical merchandise displays
• Monitor patient flow and communicate delays effectively
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the office manager, team lead, or doctors

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Sales/retail experience preferred
• Optician experience is a plus

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Physical activity includes talking and hearing
• Work involves mainly sedentary sitting
• Visual acuity required for accuracy and thoroughness
