Job summary

SpaceX in Redmond, WA is seeking an Optical Transceiver Engineer to design, validate, and operate optical datacom systems for Starlink satellites. You will integrate photonics, electronics, and mechanical concepts to deliver high‑throughput interconnects used inside payloads.

The role emphasizes cross‑disciplinary collaboration, verification testing, and risk reviews with reliability teams. Strong background in photonics, SERDES, and signal integrity, along with Python or C++, is essential;

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in physics, CS, EE or related engineering field.
• 1+ years of hands-on lab/work in photonics, SERDES/optical DSP, or SI.
• 1+ years of experience in a programming language (C++, MATLAB, or Python).

Responsibilities

• Apply interdisciplinary knowledge to design, analyze, and validate data communication systems.
• Represent optical datacom networks in cross-disciplinary trades and issue resolution.
• Trade-space analyze optical interconnect technologies to meet throughput and uptime.
• Participate in verification testing: environmental, functional, reliability, fault injection.
• Review data, lead anomaly investigation and resolution.
• Interface with manufacturing and supply chain to ensure manufacturability.
• Collaborate with software/automation teams to develop tools for link tuning and qualification.
• Present reliability and risk discussions with internal teams, customers and vendors.
