Job summary

Impulse Space is seeking an Optical Test Specialist in Redondo Beach to perform opto‑mechanical component testing and develop state-of-the-art test equipment. You will collaborate with engineering to improve test processes across the company.

You will fabricate and test high-quality components, verify flight hardware, and contribute to automated acceptance testing. Strong trouble-shooting, wiring, and vacuum/thermal knowledge are essential for success.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years in opto-mechanical or electronic assembly and/or test production environment, or a bachelor's degree in an engineering field.
  • Familiarity with handling optical equipment and cleaning techniques.
  • Proficient with wiring and electrical systems; able to troubleshoot fluid and electrical systems.

  • Provide training and guidance to other technicians.

Job description

Department: Assembly, Integration & Test

Location: Redondo Beach

Compensation: $135,000 - $165,000 / year

Description

As an Optical Test Specialist at Impulse, you will perform a wide range of opto-mechanical component testing while developing and maintaining state-of-the-art test equipment. You will work closely with engineering to improve overall test processes across the company.

Responsibilities
  • Fabricate, assemble and test high quality, high reliability opto-mechanical components, combustion devices and electromechanical assemblies
  • Perform verifications of flight hardware and document results in a clear, precise and complete manner
  • Improve processes to enable automated acceptance testing
  • Respond to production related non-conformances and drive to root cause and disposition
  • Maintain process planning documents and action feedback when necessary
  • Perform maintenance and calibration activities for automated acceptance testing equipment
  • Work with engineers to create 2D drawings from existing 3D models by applying established drawing specifications and standards
  • Provide training and guidance to other technicians
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 7+ years of experience working on opto-mechanical or electronic assembly and/or test production environment or a bachelor's degree in an engineering field
  • Familiarity with handling optical equipment and cleaning techniques
  • Deep knowledge of the safe operation of vacuum, thermal, electrical, power and data acquisition systems
  • Proficient with wiring and electrical systems
  • Proficient with fabricating and acquiring parts to build test capabilities from basic requirements with minimal direction from others
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems with fluid and electrical systems and implement scrappy solutions
Preferred Skills And Experience
  • Associate degree or bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace, or electrical engineering
  • 9+ years of demonstrated professional experience providing support for the production and test of highly complex opto-mechanical components
  • Experience designing tooling in a hardware development environment
  • Capable of solving complex problems with little to no supervision on schedule as an individual or as a member of an integrated team
  • Experience building and operating TVAC chambers
Additional Information

Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
