• Type of Employment: Full-Time, 40 hours per week.
• Estimate Compensation: $23.40/hour.
• Employee Paid Group Benefits Offered: Health/Dental/Vision.
• Day Shift: 8:00am 4:30pm
• Paid Time Off per Year: 80-hours per year, occurring on day of hire.
• Sick Leave per Year: 56-hours per year, occurring on day of hire.
• Paid Federal Holidays: Eleven (11) Paid Federal Holidays

Working Hours:

The Optical Technician Helper services are required for the Day Shift (800am to 4:30pm), Monday through Friday on 8-hour shift basis to support Optical Fabrication Services. Total working hours will not exceed 40 hours per week. Overtime is not authorized under this contract.

Qualifications/Credentialing

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One (1) year experience in an optical laboratory setting.
• Optical Technicians must be computer literate.
• Most be able to read and write in English.
• Basic Life Support Certification.
  
  
  

Descriptions Of Services

Support the Optical Technician in the Optical Fabrication Laboratory, where single vision and multifocal spectacles are fabricated on a production line environment.

• Tasks shall include but are not limited to manual lens, fining and polishing, lens de-blocking, lens washing, lens coating, preparing glasses for shipment and shipping.
• Other assigned duties can include making blocks, washing blocks and reclaiming free-bond wax.
  
• Must have a general understanding of optical fabrication processes and must know the general terms and nomenclature used in the fabrication of eyewear to include lens types, lens powers, frame type and other general optical specific products.
• Shall perform duties on a rotating basis in support of optical fabrication processes in all production phases of the Optical Fabrication Laboratory, where single vision and multifocal eyewear is fabricated on a production line basis.
• Must be capable of operating ophthalmic lens-manufacturing devices/equipment in both the surfacing and fabrication sections of the laboratory. Ophthalmic devices/equipment including Surface Blockers, and Lens makers, Lens generators, Lens Surfacers, Lens Station Washers, Lens Coating Machines, Tinting Equipment, Lens Analyzers, Lens Blockers, and 7ES edging machines.
• As required, assist the Optical Technician in tests lenses for safety, aberrations, abnormalities, and expertly assembles lenses and frames.
• Aligns and inserts lenses into Zylonite/Vinyl frames while frames are expanded by heat.
• Also fits lenses into metal frames by bending metal frame to fit lens curvature and/or removing excess lens material with hand beveling device.
• Tint lenses to required filtering requirements as specified by the prescription and compliance with ANSI Standards utilizing a photometer or equivalent device.
• Uses lens analyzer to make final inspection of completed spectacles for possible flaws or faulty workmanship.
• Evaluates completed optical devices/spectacles utilizing necessary ophthalmic formulas and sound judgment to determine if Optical devices/spectacles comply with the prescribing Doctors Prescription and ANSI standards prior to the delivery of spectacles to patient.
  
• Perform routine operator maintenance and adjustments to equipment used, to include calibrating, oiling, lubrication, etc., in accordance with operators manuals.
• Assures machines are operating properly when using equipment.
