Job summary

Teledyne FLIR Defense in Freeport, PA is seeking an Optical Machine Technician to join the team. The role starts on 1st shift during training and transitions to 2nd or 3rd shift after training, supporting the production of optical components for thermal imaging systems.

You will operate diamond turning, polishing machines, CNC polishers, grinders, and MR finishing; read blueprints, measure with calipers and micrometers, and ensure quality through inspection tools.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Machining experience strongly preferred.
• Optical manufacturing experience a plus.
• Experience using basic shop tools such as calipers, micrometers, drop gauges preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate various machines including diamond turning, conventional polishing, CNC polishers and grinders, and Magnetorheological Finishing (MRF).
• Fabricate optical components by profiling, cutting, milling, grinding, beveling, blocking, polishing, edging, cleaning and testing.
• Use metrology and inspection tools to test and inspect optics for accuracy and quality.
• Read and understand blueprints and technical drawings.
• Follow safety and equipment maintenance procedures.

We are looking to hire an Optical Machine Technician to join our team, initially working 1st shift hours during training and then 2nd or 3rd shift hours after training. This position will learn the necessary skills to run various machines that are used to make and measure the optics used in Teledyne FLIR products.
