Job summary

VSP Vision is seeking an entry-level Optical Technician to support daily lab operations in a fast-paced manufacturing setting in Ohio. Under direct supervision, you will perform department tasks including stocking, sorting, lens handling, tinting, and quality checks.

The role requires the ability to work any shift, lift up to 30 pounds, and maintain safety standards while assisting other departments and ensuring procedures are followed in a busy lab environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in a fast-paced manufacturing or optical lab environment.
• Ability to perform the functions of an Optical Technician (Level 1).

• Good manual dexterity and color recognition skills.
• Able to lift up to 30 pounds and follow procedures.

Responsibilities

• Perform most functions of an Optical Technician (Level 1).
• Inventory control: stocking shelves, sorting trays, pulling lenses, cosmetic inspection and restocking.
• Lens stocking and transcription in the lab management system; stage work in designated areas.
• Operate the automatic taper and tint edged lenses.
• Expedite by flagging work to move; assist in pre-shipping wash-up.
• Maintain safety standards and a clean workstation; assist other departments.
• Adhere to quality management and safety requirements.

Job description

Under direct supervision, perform a variety of tasks related to daily lab operations and production.

Perform department tasks including one or more of the following:

• Perform most functions of an Optical Technician (Level 1)


• Inventory control functions including assisting with stocking lens shelves, sorting and distributing trays, pulling semi-finished or finished lenses, and performing cosmetic inspection and restocking


• Lens stocking including print and tray up jobs off the combob, pull lenses & transcribe digital jobs through the lab management system, stage work in designated areas, and assist with lens stocking and inventory


• Operates the automatic taper


• Tints edged and uncut lenses


• Expeditor functions including flagging work to move


• Pre-shipping wash-up functions including providing needed masks/cloths as needed


• Assist in efficiently moving work through the department


• Maintain company safety standards


• Maintain a clean workstation


• Assist and cooperate with other departments


• Ensure understanding and adherence to quality management and safety requirements, systems, and procedures


• Other duties as assigned

Job Specifications

Typically Has The Following Skills Or Abilities

• Experience working in a fast-paced environment


• One to two years of manufacturing, production, or optical tech experience


• Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the functions of an Optical Technician (Level 1)


• Must be able to work any shift, time, and day


• Ability to meet department standards for productivity and quality


• Ability to communicate at a level necessary to accomplish the above tasks


• Good manual dexterity and hand/eye coordination


• Ability to perform physical activities requiring bending, kneeling, and pulling/pushing


• Ability to recognize and distinguish colors


• Ability to understand and follow procedures


• Ability to lift up to 30 pounds


• Ability to walk or stand up to 100% of the time


• For roles that are remote (i.e., Work From Home (WFH)) or hybrid (i.e., partial onsite at a VSP location and WFH), must demonstrate a high level of engagement in virtual environments, including maintaining camera presence during meetings to support effective communication and team alignment

Compensation range for the role is listed below. Applicable salary ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. Salary Ranges: $15.75 - $22.58
