Job summary

SpaceX is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for Optical & Space Lasers Manufacturing (Starlink). The role covers design, integration, testing, and production of optical assemblies for satellites.

You'll work across engineering teams on fixtures, test procedures, and data-driven improvements to ensure reliable spaceflight hardware. Requirements include a Bachelor's in mechanical engineering and 1+ years of hands-on design or manufacturing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or other engineering discipline.
  • 1+ years of professional mechanical design or hands-on manufacturing experience (internships/co-ops and club projects can apply).

Responsibilities

  • Manage integration build flow and test operations.
  • Evaluate proposed designs for manufacturability and integration.
  • Translate design requirements into test procedures.
  • Design fixtures, mechanisms, fluid systems and hardware to support testing of satellite systems.
  • Create detailed documentation for test systems including drawings and schematics.
  • Use hand calculations and FEA to validate design decisions.
  • Interface with engineers and technicians to optimize manufacturing, testing, and automation.
  • Develop and refine testing and manufacturing assembly procedures.
  • Enable day-to-day execution of product integration and test flow.
  • Evaluate non-conformances to determine root cause and actions.
  • Collaborate with upstream/downstream teams to improve system performance.
  • Review data to validate performance of systems.
  • Balance priorities with effective time management and communication.
  • Demonstrate ownership from concept to commissioning.
