Job summary

LongPath Technologies in Boulder, CO seeks an experienced Optical Scientist to lead the development of open path laser spectrometers. You will transform ambitious specifications into functional transceivers, focusing on optoelectronic signals, robust optomechanical design, and hands-on prototype development.

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
• Experience with optical lab techniques and laser systems preferred.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with non-engineers.

LongPath Technologies uses lasers to combat climate change by mitigating greenhouse gas emissions from the natural gas supply chain. Our patented technology and innovative deployment design provides low-cost continuous monitoring of emissions, providing the industry with the state-of-the-art quantification for emissions measurement and rapid repair of fugitive emissions. LongPath is seeking an experienced Optical Scientist to drive development of open path laser spectrometers, including optoelectronic signal characteristics, robust optomechanical design, and prototype development and testing. The ideal candidate will be excited to take a great deal of ownership from specifications to final design and work well in a dynamic team. What You’ll Do

What You’ll Need

• Optical lab techniques
• Freespace beam propagation modeling experience
• Optomechanical design principles with free-space optics
• SNR modeling and validation experience
• Low noise electronics experience
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills with a wide range of individual stakeholders, including non-engineers
• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field

Desired Skills

• Low optical power detection/photon counting experience
• Zemax experience
• SolidWorks experience

Working Conditions

• Work is performed in an office/laboratory environment in Boulder, CO
• Must be authorized to work for any employer in US (no sponsorship)
