Job summary

Meta is seeking an Optical Process & Manufacturing Engineer - Lens Technical Lead to own precision optical components from concept to high-volume production. The role leads cross-functional teams and collaborates with external vendors to establish scalable, validated manufacturing processes for ophthalmic-grade optics.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Polymer Science, Optical Engineering, or related field.
• PhD preferred in related field (Materials Science, Optical Engineering)
• Experience in manufacturing and process development of precision optical components for ophthalmic or consumer electronics

Responsibilities

• Own precision optical components from concept through prototype, validation, and high-volume production ramp.
• Lead external vendor and supply-chain collaborations for material selection, tooling, process optimization, metrology, and quality control.
• Develop and qualify ophthalmic manufacturing processes and metrology (optical power, surface form, wavefront, cosmetics).
• Define and qualify tooling and processes to establish new capability with partners.
• Drive mold design and mold flow analysis to optimize tool geometry, gating, and process windows.
• Develop and qualify high-precision lens cutting processes (CNC, edging, laser) at scale.
• Troubleshoot defects and run DOE for root cause analysis and process improvement.
• Integrate novel materials/processes (lamination, coating, casting, injection molding) for next-gen optics.
