** During training, this position will work M-F 1st shift hours for 1-6 months. After training this position will work a set M-F 2nd or 3rd shift schedule (both are available). **

Job Summary:

The Teledyne FLIR manufacturing facility in Freeport, PA makes optical components that go into thermal imaging cameras, gimbals, scopes, and other military driven products. We are looking to hire an Optical Machine Technician to join our team, initially working 1st shift hours during training and then moving to a set 2nd or 3rd shift schedule after training. This position will learn the necessary skills to run various machines that are used to make and measure the optics used in Teledyne FLIR products. There will be an opportunity to get cross trained on various/multiple machines.

Job Duties:

  1. Operate various machines including diamond turning, conventional polishing, Computer Numerical Control (CNC) polishers and grinders, and Magnetorheological Finishing (MRF).
  2. Perform various functions associated with the fabrication of optical components such as profiling, cutting, milling, grinding, beveling, blocking, polishing, edging, cleaning and testing using appropriate machines and equipment.
  3. Use a variety of metrology and inspection tools to test and inspect optical components for accuracy and quality.
  4. Read and understand blueprints and technical drawings.
  5. Follow appropriate safety and equipment maintenance procedures.

Requirements:

  1. Able and willing to work M-F 1st shift hours for 1-6 months for initial training, then transition to a set M-F 2nd or 3rd shift schedule (either option).
  2. High school diploma or equivalent education.
  3. Machining experience strongly preferred.
  4. Optical manufacturing experience a plus/preferred.
  5. Experience using basic shop tools such as calipers, micrometers, drop gauges preferred.
  6. Experience performing visual inspections of small parts for defects strongly preferred.
  7. Experience handling delicate parts/pieces throughout a manufacturing process strongly preferred.
  8. Basic math skills.
  9. Able to lift 20 pounds occasionally.
  10. Able to grip, grasp, and work with hands on products repetitively.
  11. Able to follow direction and coaching from others.
  12. Able to work with minimal supervision.
  13. Applicants must be either a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, legal permanent resident, asylee, refugee or must be eligible to apply for and obtain the appropriate export control license from the U.S. Departments of State or Commerce.
