Job summary

Kearfott Corporation in New Jersey is seeking an Optical/Laser Cleaning Technician to clean and prepare optical products in an ISO-5 cleanroom. The role includes polishing, fixture exchanges, and cleaning tasks guided by documentation and work instructions.

Responsibilities include working under a microscope, inspecting assemblies, and maintaining logs. Requires 2–5 years of optical/laser experience, strong attention to detail, and the ability to lift 30 lbs.

Qualifications

  • Requires High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate degree preferred.
  • 2-5 years of experience with optical/laser precision parts assembly methods.
  • Must be able to lift 30 lbs. and up to 5 lbs. for extended periods.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Experience in ISO9001/AS9100 environments preferred.

  • Inspect in-process assemblies under a microscope.
  • Clean hardware with solvents and perform polishing/fixture exchanges.
  • Work under microscopes for long periods to clean, test, and calibrate optical products.
  • Maintain logbooks, tolerance sheets, and work orders; communicate with engineers and technicians.

Optical/Laser Cleaning Technician
Position Description

An Optical/Laser Cleaning Technician will work under moderate supervision to clean and prepare various optical products. The successful candidate performs technical functions that include polishing, fixture exchanges, and cleaning as referred to in documentation and work instructions. The technician will also be able to perform other cleaning and preparation tasks with various materials with or without instruction. These tasks will be performed in an ISO-5 Cleanroom environment.

Required Skills
Essential Functions
  • Interprets operation sheets, drawings, diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and written instructions.
  • Inspects in-process assemblies as part of methods of operations consistently under a microscope.
  • Cleans hardware of various materials with a multitude of solvents.
  • Works under microscopes for long periods of time to visually clean, test, and calibrate various optical products and components.
  • Maintains logbooks, tolerance sheets, work orders, and other required documentation.
  • Actively communicates with engineers, managers, and other technicians on process status, issues, and suggestions.
  • Performs other tasks directed by management to satisfy company objectives.
Critical Competencies
  • Has working knowledge of hand tools, microscopes, vacuum systems, assembly equipment, electronic equipment, and processing equipment. (Degreasers, ultrasonics, plasma cleaners, etc.)
  • Capable of working independently as well as within a cross-functional team of both engineers and technicians on both production and R&D.
  • Detail-oriented and demonstrated background working with delicate parts, especially glass and wafers.
  • Hands‑on experience with one of the following preferred: lasers, mirrors/lenses/prisms, optical metrology, optical assembly, optical alignment, inertial navigation systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Experience working with Standard Operating Procedures/work orders required.
General Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Associate degree preferred.
  • 2-5 years of experience with optical/laser precision parts assembly methods.
  • Must be able to lift 30 lbs. and up to 5 lbs. for extended periods of time.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Knowledge of parts inspection high magnification microscopes.
  • Previous experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Previous experience working in ISO9001/AS9100 certified manufacturing facilities preferred.
  • Previous experience working in cleanrooms (ISO Class 4 through Class 7) preferred.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in New Jersey is $25.00 - $38.00 hourly. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to job-related knowledge and skills, experience, and internal consistency.
