Job summary

Kearfott Corporation in New Jersey is seeking an Optical/Laser Cleaner and Aligning Technician (2nd or 3rd shift) to clean, align, and test optical products under moderate supervision. The role involves interpreting operation sheets, inspecting assemblies, and working under microscopes to assemble, align, rework, repair, wire, test and calibrate components.

Candidates should have 2–5 years of experience with precision parts assembly, be able to lift 30 lbs, and be a US citizen.

Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of experience with precision parts assembly.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Experience in aerospace manufacturing environments and ISO9001/AS9100 facilities preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Interprets operation sheets, drawings, diagrams, schematics, blueprints and instructions.
  • Inspects in-process assemblies as part of methods of operations.
  • Analyzes data with specifications through data logs and work instruction sheets.
  • Calculates correct alignment moves based on data readouts.
  • Cleans hardware with a variety of solvents.
  • Works under microscopes to assemble, align, rework, repair, wire, test and calibrate optical products.
  • Maintains logbooks, tolerance sheets, shop orders and documentation.
  • Communicates with engineers and managers on process status and issues.
  • Performs other tasks directed by Management to satisfy company objectives.

Optical/Laser Cleaner and Aligning Technician (2nd or 3rd Shift)
Overview

An Optical/Laser Cleaner and Aligning Technician will work under moderate supervision to clean and align optical products. The successful candidate performs technical functions that include optical alignment, cleaning, and testing as referred to in documentation and work instructions. The technician will also be able to perform test procedures and evaluation with or without instruction.

Essential Functions
  • Interprets operation sheets, drawings, diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and written instructions.
  • Inspects in-process assemblies as part of methods of operations.
  • Analyzes data with specifications through data logs and work instruction sheets.
  • Calculates correct alignment moves based on data readouts.
  • Cleans hardware of various materials with a multitude of solvents.
  • Works under microscopes for long periods of time to assemble, align, rework, repair, wire, test and calibrate various optical products and components.
  • Maintains logbooks, tolerance sheets, shop orders, and other required documentation.
  • Actively communicates with engineers, manager, and other technicians on process statuses, issues, and suggestions.
  • Performs other tasks directed by Management to satisfy company objectives.
Critical Competencies
  • Has working knowledge of hand tools, microscopes, oscilloscopes, vision systems, vacuum systems, assembly equipment, electronic equipment, and processing equipment.
  • Capable of working independently as well as within a cross-functional team of both engineers and technicians on both production and R&D.
  • Detail-oriented and a demonstrated background working with tight tolerance hardware.
  • Hands‑on experience with one of the following preferred: lasers, mirrors/lenses/prisms, optical metrology, optical or electronics assembly, optical alignment, inertial navigation systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Experience working with SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) required.
General Requirements
  • 2-5 years of experience with precision parts assembly methods.
  • Must be able to lift 30 lbs. and up to 5 lbs. for extended periods of time.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Knowledge of parts inspection.
  • Previous experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Previous experience working in ISO9001/AS9100 certified manufacturing facilities preferred.
  • Previous experience working in cleanrooms (ISO Class 4 through Class 7) preferred.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in New Jersey is $25.00 - $38.00 hourly. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to job-related knowledge and skills, experience, and internal consistency.
