Job summary

The University of Minnesota is seeking a Researcher 1 to support projects in neuroscience research. You will assist with animal preparation, imaging, data organization, and general lab operations, working closely with the PI and senior staff.

Responsibilities include surgical preparation and anesthesia, performing imaging experiments, data processing with MATLAB and Python, and maintaining meticulous records. Collaboration and weekly lab meetings are expected to advance research goals.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in Biomedical Engineering or equivalent experience (4 years).
  • Experience with optical imaging in mice.
  • Experience working in the Kara Lab.
  • Experience using Minnesota Supercomputing Institute (MSI) services is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and organize instruments and spaces for sterile intracranial surgery in animals.
  • Induce and monitor anesthesia using isoflurane and approved substances.
  • Assist with intracranial surgical procedures in mice, including AAV injections and cranial window prep.
  • Perform optical imaging experiments and analyze data.
  • Maintain detailed records of experiments, procedures, and data files.
  • Process data using MATLAB, Python, and MSI services.
  • Collaborate with lab members to coordinate experiments and troubleshoot issues.
