Job summary

Corning's Optical Communications internship program invites students pursuing a BS/MS in Engineering or Computer Science to join a hands-on team focused on manufacturing improvements, data analysis, and prototype evaluation. You will present findings and recommendations to cross-functional groups.

The 10-week program runs Summer 2027 (May–August) with housing/travel assistance and opportunities to continue with Corning after graduation.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a BS/MS in Engineering or Computer Science or related field.
• Familiarity with engineering process fundamentals and scientific methodology.
• Data/statistical analysis skills.
• Analytical problem-solving skills.
• Ability to build relationships and work in teams.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to effectively present information.
• Be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2027 (May-August 2027) with a graduation date of December 2027 or later.

Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Scope of Position

Support technology development by using quality principles to improve manufacturing equipment and processes, improve products or to design, build, & evaluate prototypes. Analyze data to develop product, process, or equipment improvements. Give recommendations for improvements, present findings, and document work. Actively engage with cross-functional project teams to solve problems efficiently and effectively with the objective of meeting project requirements.

• Pursuing a BS/MS in Engineering or Computer Science or related field
• Familiarity with engineering process fundamentals and scientific methodology (e.g. designing and using critical experiments to drive fundamental understanding)

• Analytical problem-solving skills
• Ability to build relationships, work in teams and interact with all levels of the organization
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively present information
• Results-oriented
• Working knowledge or experience with design of experiments (DOE) concepts
• Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2027 (May-August 2027) with a graduation date of December 2027 or later

The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly. Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
