• Contribute to firmware validation and testing for ELB modules and related hardware.
• Explore and develop AI-based tools to improve engineering workflows and data analysis.
• Analyze test results and collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive resolution.

Job Description:

The HPE Optical Engineering team is seeking a motivated Intern to support the development, testing, and automation of next-generation optical networking solutions. This role offers exposure to a wide range of activities, including optical module validation, test automation, firmware verification, AI-driven workflow development, and advanced high-speed networking technologies. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced engineers and contribute to projects supporting 400G, 800G, and emerging 1.6T optical products.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain automated test solutions using Python, LabVIEW, and related tools.
• Support Design Verification Testing (DVT) and characterization of optical transceivers and networking hardware.
• Assist with optical module performance testing, data analysis, and report generation.
• Contribute to firmware validation and testing activities for active electrical loopback (ELB) modules and related hardware platforms.
• Explore and develop AI-based tools and agents to improve engineering workflows, data analysis, and productivity.
• Analyze test results, identify issues, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive resolution.

Education & Experience

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related technical field.
• Experience through coursework, co-op terms, personal projects, or research in software development, hardware testing, or networking technologies.
• Exposure to laboratory environments, automation, or embedded systems is an asset.

Knowledge & Skills

• Programming experience in Python; familiarity with LabVIEW is a plus.
• Understanding of basic networking concepts and communication protocols.
• Interest in optical communications, fiber-optic systems, or high-speed digital design.
• Familiarity with scripting, data analysis, and test automation methodologies.
• Exposure to firmware, embedded systems, or hardware debugging is beneficial.
• Knowledge of AI/ML tools, LLMs, or agent-based workflows is an asset.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced engineering environment.
