Job description

Optical Engineer – Core Systems

Reporting to the Manager, Hardware Engineering – Core Systems, the Optical Engineer will lead and support the development of innovative and robust optical design solutions for next generation Hach sensor products. The position is part of the Core Systems team located in Loveland, Colorado, and will be on‑site.

How You Will Make an Impact
  • Devise test and validation plans for optical components and help define performance specifications.
  • Help ensure the Loveland R&D Optics Lab meets current and upcoming product development needs as the primary user.
  • Support the design, characterization, and integration of optical components (lenses, optical filters, light sources, spectrometers, photodiodes, etc.) into next‑generation Hach sensor products.
  • Perform optical modeling of critical component technologies to ensure they meet system requirements.
  • Lead and conduct research into cutting‑edge optics technologies and solutions to enable future Hach sensor innovations.
  • Interface with external vendors to determine optimal and reliable component solutions.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Project Management, and Quality personnel.
Qualifications
  • BS degree; MS preferred in Optical Sciences, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in Optical Engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience developing optics for products.
  • Experience with Design of Experiments and associated methodologies for optical components/systems.
  • Proficiency with optical design software such as Zemax OpticStudio.
  • Experience in optical lens design and fabrication.
  • Understanding of opto‑mechanical system assembly, packaging, tolerance analysis, and stray light analysis.
  • Experience with statistical data analysis methods using JMP, MATLAB, or Python.
  • Familiar with optics metrology tools such as monochromators, light power meters, and spectrophotometers.
Compensation & Benefits

US‑ONLY: Salary range $110,000 – $125,000 USD per year, plus eligibility for bonus pay. Comprehensive benefits include paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance, and a 401(k) plan for eligible employees.
