GENERAL SUMMARY

Responsible for interpreting ophthalmic spectacle prescriptions and eyewear orders to properly deliver, adjust, and repair eyewear.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Inspect eyewear and the corresponding order prior to delivery.
  • Dispense eyewear using the E.A.R.N. process methodology.
  • Maintain knowledge of each dispensing tool, its proper use, and ensure proper fitting of eyewear through various frame adjustments.
  • Explain care and maintenance instructions for eyewear to patients, including HFO cleaning regimens.
  • Process eyewear deliveries in the software system and perform frame and lens repairs.
  • Troubleshoot vision, lens, and frame issues, verify prescriptions, base curves, PDs, segment heights, and visual acuity; adjust face form as needed.
  • Communicate the benefits of various lens products and assist patients in selecting appropriate options.
  • Understand different frame materials to properly adjust and repair them; process remake orders and apply vision insurance coverage correctly.
  • Use auto and manual lensometry to verify and neutralize spectacle prescriptions in eyewear.
  • Manage eyewear orders in the software and monitor delivery statuses.
  • Assist with placing patient eyewear orders as needed.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or G.E.D required.
  • Previous computer experience and basic math skills preferred.
  • Experience in customer service, hospitality, or retail preferred.
  • Optical dispensing experience is a plus.
  • Ability to walk, bend, and stand for extended periods.
  • Complete all required training courses as directed by Henry Ford OptimEyes.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work occurs in a retail optical environment.
  • Requires evening and weekend hours.
