AEG Vision in Mesa, AZ is seeking an Optical Consultant to work with Optometrists, support patient education, and ensure exceptional care. You will perform pre-exam evaluations, collect medical history, and help coordinate referrals.

Responsibilities include recording findings, scheduling follow-ups, and handling contact lens trials and basic clerical duties, while maintaining a clean, organized practice environment.

Qualifications

• High School or GED required.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure in a fast paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with co-workers and patients.
• Proficient with MS Office tools and general computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform preliminary patient evaluations before the exam by the Optometrist (e.g., dilation, diagnostic procedures, visual acuity).
• Conduct verbal interview with patient to determine medical issues and reasons for visit for the Optometrist.
• Schedule referral appointments and complete related paperwork as needed.
• Maintain patient records in compliance with HIPAA and internal policies.
• Respond to patient inquiries regarding medications and treatment in coordination with the Optometrist.
• May perform diagnostic testing with equipment such as OCT, visual fields, pachymetry, and retinal camera.
• Document findings in EHR and assist with related clerical tasks.

About The Role

At AEG, we believe great patient experiences begin with great teams. As an Optical Consultant, you'll work alongside the Optometrists to support all aspects of patient care and education, ensuring that patients receive exceptional care.

• Perform preliminary evaluations of patients prior to exam by the Optometrist, such as dilation, topicals, diagnostic medications, Optomap, auto reflector, visual acuity, etc.
• Performs verbal interview with patient prior to visit with Optometrist to determine medical issues and reasons for their visit to provide details to Optometrist.
• May be required to schedule referral appointments with Ophthalmologists, Diagnostic follow-up visits, and other specialty referrals, and complete paperwork.
• Records and maintains patient records / files in compliance with company, federal, and state policies (HIPAA).
• Responds to patient telephone inquiries regarding medication, treatment, problems referring to the Optometrist as necessary.
• May be required to perform diagnostic testing using specialty equipment (OCT, Visual Field, Pachymetry, Retinal Camera. Etc.).
• Documents medical findings and communication between Optometrist and patient in Electronic Health Records(EHR) and assist with clerical duties related to medical documentation (participating practices only). Checking CPT codes, billings for post op, office visit etc.
• Ensures that maximum schedule utilization occurs through pre-appointment confirmation, daily appointment confirmation, contacting patients from recall listings, contacting no-shows or canceled patients to reschedule.
• Performs contact lens insertion and removal classes (I&R) and manages the contact lens trial inventory, check-in and take contact lens orders in person or by phone.
• Performs end-of-day responsibilities to include opti-schedule wrap-up, end-of-day checklist, etc.
• Cleans and organizes frame boards, displays, mirrors, work bench, office area, maintaining overall cleanliness and visual appeal of the practice.
• May be asked to act as a scribe for the Optometrist or perform refractions.
• Performs other duties within the Practice as requested.

Requirements

• High School or GED qualification.
• Strong attention to the details and ability to work under pressure in fast paced environment.
• PC skills to include MC Office, Windows, and Word Processing.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively and professionally collaborate with co-workers and patients.
