Job summary

Aalyria is hiring a Communication System Test Engineer to qualify coherent optical modem systems from component level to full system integration. You will own the test bench, select hardware, and perform root-cause analysis with Matlab or Python for data analysis.

You’ll design experiments, work with BERTs, AWGs, OSAs, and high-speed scopes, and collaborate across design, systems, and firmware teams to translate test results into product decisions. Eligibility for US export controls applies.

Qualifications

• Active security clearance or eligibility to obtain one.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the selection and purchase of lab equipment and components to assemble test benches for qualifying optical communication systems.
• Set up and conduct lab experiments to evaluate coherent optical modems.
• Utilize lab instrumentation (BERTs, AWGs, oscilloscopes, OSAs, OPMs, VOAs, polarization controllers).
• Perform optical and electrical performance characterization of components and modules.
• Analyze results and support debug and optimization using Matlab or Python.
• Lead root-cause analysis and deep-dive debugging during testing.
• Prepare and present detailed test reports with findings and recommendations.
• Develop and maintain automated test frameworks for repeatable evaluations.
• Collaborate with design, systems, and firmware teams to validate specifications.
