Specific Responsibilities
- Provide basic nursing services within RN scope of practice to students under direct or indirect supervision of the Community Health Nursing Supervisor.
- Administer first aid, daily medications, and emergency medications to students and staff as requested and ordered by a physician, including intermittent clean catheterization, gastrostomy tube feeding, and blood glucose monitoring.
- Organize and assist with state‑mandated health screenings such as hearing/vision, scoliosis, and BMI.
- Maintain a clean health unit/work area and perform periodic inventory of medical supplies.
- Maintain accurate, timely records and documentation of all work performed.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with all staff members.
- Assist the health screening team with implementing/scheduling all health screenings for school district students in state‑mandated grade levels and input screening data into HMS. Prepare and sort mailings to parents/guardians and handle notification letters and phone contacts.
- Attend school health in‑services, complete mandated training, submit timesheet, mileage, and daily report in a timely fashion.
- Perform related work as required.
- May be required to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in case of emergency, including work in special needs or Red Cross shelters, responding to threats, etc. The role will involve access to records containing social security numbers.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficiency with computer equipment: e‑mail, attachments, print, fax and telephone skills, and data entry.
- Ability to keep accurate records and document using electronic records.
- Ability to work independently.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience working with children and adolescents.
- Capability to respond to emergency situations, lift 10–20 lbs.
- Ability to climb stairs or navigate stairs if elevators are out.
- Ability to obtain CPR certification and perform CPR correctly.
- Ability to assist a student into and out of a wheelchair and maneuver a wheelchair over uneven surfaces for extended periods.
- Ability to bend to retrieve items from file cabinets or lower storage areas.
Qualifications
Minimum
- Must acquire CPR and First Aid prior to onboarding.
- Experience working in a medical setting.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Transportation to Brevard Public Schools.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Preferred
- Experience working in a pediatric medical setting.
