Job description

O'Neal Steel has an opening for a 3rd Shift (8pm-4am) Ops Processing Supervisor at our Birmingham, AL facility.

The mission of this position is to provide leadership in developing and delivering safe cost-effective solutions to continuously enhance all shipping functions, assist in all administrative tasks, and help to improve communication between Operations and the Commercial Teams.
Successful candidate must be a self-starter that possesses strong analytical skills, excellent problem-solving techniques, and strong communication skills


Responsibilities Include but Are Not Limited To:

  • Support the Commercial Teams by being the focal point for all shipping-related questions and concerns.
  • Lead the District Operation Specialists in their shipping and administrative tasks (scanning, checking receipts, filing of documents).
  • Assist in the investigation of all heat number related issues and search for root causes.
  • Address all paperwork issues (shipping papers, inbound receipts, and RAs).
  • Ensure all inbound truck appointments are being scheduled in a timely manner.
  • Provide resources for recording all training documents.
  • Oversee the non-steel purchasing for the district.
  • Update production progress reports and key metrics for the district.
  • Assist with all inventory issues by identifying root causes and providing solutions to them


Required Skills, Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory or leadership experience preferably in a steel service center, metal processing/manufacturing environment or other warehouse/distribution type industry.
  • Strong steel processing and service center experience preferred.
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Previous experience with safety training, truck scheduling, and truck routing.
  • Strong computer skills with a high level of proficiency with Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel.

Must be able to work 3rd Shift (8:00PM-4:00AM) Sunday - Thursday. Overtime will be required as needed.
