The Ecosystem Assessment Specialist (Environmental Specialist II) manages environmental monitoring programs for water quality, seagrass, and hardbottom habitats within the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary and Aquatic Preserves, located in Marathon, FL. The role involves field research, data collection and analysis, resource management project coordination, educational outreach, and diving operations to protect marine ecosystems in south Florida. This temporary position supports the Department of Environmental Protection's Office of Resilience and Coastal Protection in Southeast Region.

Key qualifications:

• At least five years of verifiable experience in marine environmental or biological sciences (or equivalent post-secondary degree)
• Knowledge of south Florida seagrass, mangrove, and coral reef ecosystems and ecological principles
• Skill in snorkeling and SCUBA diving with ability to obtain DEP diving certifications
• Proficiency with computers, MS Office, and ArcGIS software
• Ability to operate motor vehicles and small boats from water in challenging conditions
• Valid driver license and ability to lift minimum 50 lbs
