Job summary

GRVTY is seeking a Technical Scientist – SME to support research, algorithm development, and analytics for OPIR and EO/IR sensing systems at a customer site in Herndon, VA. You will collaborate with engineers and analysts to build physics-based models, run image science methods, and deliver rigorous insights for national security missions.

The role emphasizes autonomous work, impactful analytics, and mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

• Active Top Secret clearance with SCI/CI polygraph is required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Image Science, Engineering, Applied Physics, Atmospheric Science, Applied Mathematics, or closely related field.
• 5+ years of hands-on OPIR experience in EO/IR phenomenology or sensor performance assessment.
• Experience with image processing and DSP tools for SWIR/MWIR data.
• Experience applying algorithms for target detection and background suppression in OPIR/EO-IR contexts.
• Familiarity with multi-data stream ingest and TCPED process.
• Strong documentation and communication skills for technical reports and briefings.
• Ability to work independently and manage priorities without significant hand-holding.

Responsibilities

• Lead R&D of algorithms for OPIR/EO-IR remote sensing, focusing on detection, tracking, location, and characterization.
• Design and evaluate algorithms for sensor performance, including noise modeling and calibration.
• Analyze optical signature data to extract phenomenology and generate intelligence insights.
• Conduct multi-platform remote sensing analytics across varied sensors and data streams.
• Support TCPED process from tasking to exploitation and dissemination.
• Review analytic outputs for technical accuracy and mission relevance; identify gaps and improvements.
• Maintain detailed, reproducible analysis logs of workflows and results.
• Respond to real-time EO/IR analysis requests and adapt to changing priorities.
• Test emerging algorithms and tools; contribute to trade studies and capability assessments.
• Prepare technical briefings and written reports for customers and program stakeholders.
• Mentor junior analysts and contribute to analytic standards.
