Job summary

The University of Rochester Ophthalmology department is seeking a specialist/educator to support ophthalmic services. The role schedules 8:00 AM–4:30 PM and coordinates technician activities to ensure smooth patient flow in the clinic.

Responsibilities include overseeing the technician training program, performing as a technician when needed, leading meetings, and assisting with recruitment and evaluations. A COA certification and a bachelor's degree are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 3 years of relevant experience with COA certification.
  • Or 5 years of relevant experience with COA certification.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience with COA certification.
  • Preferred COT certification.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates daily activities of ophthalmic technicians and develops weekly technician schedules.
  • Oversees ophthalmic technician training program to ensure staff meets required skill levels.
  • Performs as a ophthalmic technician and covers specialty services during shortages.
  • Chairs bi-monthly technician team meetings and follows up on action items.
  • Assists with recruitment and hiring for technicians and provides input on evaluations.
  • Keeps COA certification current and stays informed on field developments.
