Job summary

Akron Children's Hospital seeks an Ophthalmology Technician to support both clinical and research functions in the ophthalmology department. You will prepare and perform assigned eye procedures on pediatric and adult patients under physician supervision.

The role involves preparing equipment, assisting physicians, and ensuring care meets the physical, psychological, social, educational, and safety needs of patients across all ages.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; ophthalmic tech program preferred.
• Minimum 1 year of direct patient care in healthcare.
• Experience in vision center or ophthalmic setting preferred.
• Certification: JCAOP or certification-eligible preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares equipment and patients for ophthalmic testing procedures.
• Assists physicians with ophthalmic testing procedures.
• Delivers care addressing the physical, psychological, social, educational, and safety needs of patients of all ages.
• Other duties as required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares equipment and patients for ophthalmic testing procedures.
• Assists physicians with performing various ophthalmic testing procedures.
• Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the physical, psychological, social, educational, and safety needs of the patients served regardless of age.
• Other duties as required.

Other Information

Technical Expertise

• Experience working with all levels within an organization is required.
• Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word] or similar software is required.
• Experience in ophthalmology is preferred.
• Experience in pediatrics is preferred.

Education and Experience

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Completion of an approved Ophthalmic Technician/Assistant program preferred.
• Certification: Joint Commission on Allied Personnel in Ophthalmology certification or certification-eligible is preferred.
• Years of relevant experience: A minimum of 1 year of experience in healthcare, providing direct patient care is required. Vision center or ophthalmic experience is preferred.
