Ophthalmology Senior Thought Leader Liaison

About this Marketing Role :

The Senior TLL role is a vital link between Genentech and National & Regional Therapeutic Area Experts (TAEs) in Ophthalmology / Retina. The Senior TLL will gather insights to refine strategies, develop advocacy to influence market beliefs and behaviors, and strengthen connections with TAEs within their geography. They will translate TAE insights into actionable feedback to shape brand and squad strategies and support the execution of franchise priorities and brand strategies through local/regional Customer Engagement (CE) opportunities, partnering with CE leadership to shape advocacy in local markets.

Key Responsibilities include:

  1. Establish and foster effective partnerships with National and Regional Thought Leaders.
  2. Develop advocacy among TAEs to advance franchise and brand priorities.
  3. Understand, synthesize, and integrate insights across customers, competitors, therapeutic areas, and markets to inform strategic planning and customer impact.
  4. Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure cohesive understanding of TA strategies, priorities, and needs.
  5. Ensure TAEs are educated on current data and messages, correcting misperceptions compliantly and urgently.
  6. Partner with medical to lead overarching TAE strategy for brands, indications, and launches.
  7. Manage fee-for-service activities with TAEs appropriately.
  8. Influence customer perception and advocacy, leveraging relationships to meet partner needs.
  9. Participate actively in core marketing and TLL sub-teams.
  10. Operate autonomously, making decisions aligned with product value, positioning, and priorities.
  11. Maintain full compliance with company policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.

Additional Requirements:

  • Regular business travel by air or car.
  • Field-based position in IL, IN, MI, MN, ND, OH, SD, WI. No relocation benefits.

Proficiency in:

  • Customer understanding, competitive value creation, strategy development, execution, delivery, and measurement.

Knowledge / Skills :

  • Deep knowledge of TAEs and ophthalmology/retina customer types.
  • Ability to educate and challenge TAEs.
  • Strong data interpretation, presentation, and project management skills.
  • Enterprise mindset, influencing skills, adaptability, and financial acumen.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • At least 5 years of cross-functional industry experience in life sciences or related fields.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Ophthalmology/retina experience.
  • Thought Leader Liaison experience.
  • Experience in marketing strategy and competitive therapeutic areas.

Location :

Field-based in IL, IN, MI, MN, ND, OH, SD, WI. Extensive travel required. No relocation benefits.

Salary Range :

Based on Illinois location, $159,300 - $295,800, with potential bonuses and benefits.
