The role focuses on leveraging large-scale healthcare data to advance ophthalmic research and patient care, with required PhD/MD or equivalent in epidemiology, biostatistics, or related fields.

Experts in pharmacoepidemiology, AI/ML methods, and analysis of EHR/claims data are preferred.

Qualifications

  • PhD, MD, or equivalent required.
  • Expertise in pharmacoepidemiology and AI/ML methods.
  • Experience with large healthcare datasets (EHR, claims, or real-world data).

Responsibilities

  • Establish and lead an independent, high-impact research program in ophthalmology using large-scale data sources.
  • Contribute to ophthalmology research through pharmacoepidemiology, real-world evidence generation, and advanced analytics using EHR and claims data.
  • Lead methodological and applied research, including development of AI/ML analyses to evaluate treatment effectiveness and safety.
  • Design and conduct studies using large-scale datasets (EHR, claims, registries, federated networks).
  • Perform and oversee programming and advanced statistical analyses on large datasets.
  • Collaborate with clinical faculty, data scientists, and interdisciplinary teams across Penn.
  • Contribute to manuscript preparation, publication, and dissemination of findings with project investigators.
  • Secure extramural funding from NIH, foundations, and industry.
  • Publish in high-impact journals and present at conferences.
  • Mentor master-level biostatisticians, fellows, residents, and graduate students.
