Job description

Job Summary

Plastic and reconstructive surgery of the periorbital and facial tissues, including eyelids and eyebrows, cheeks, orbit, and lacrimal (tear) system. Eye plastic surgeons are ophthalmologists who have completed extensive post-residency training in this subspecialty. This highly specialized area of plastic surgery focuses on the area around the eyes, forehead, and midface. Conditions treated include drooping eyelids (ptosis), eyelid malpositions (entropion, ectropion), eyelash abnormalities, tumors of the eyelids and orbit, trauma, congenital abnormalities, thyroid eye disease, tearing problems, and blinking difficulties (blepharospasm, hemifacial spasm).

Job Duties

Geisinger is seeking a full-time, board-certified/eligible, ASOPRS fellowship-trained Oculoplastics specialist for a position in the Department of Ophthalmology at the new Healthplex in Pittston, Pennsylvania, near Scranton/Wilkes Barre and the Pocono Mountains. The Geisinger Eye Institute is a successful, growing multi-specialty group integrating optometric and ophthalmologic services. Candidates interested in resident education and residency program development are encouraged to apply.

Position Details

  • Modern clinic with 30 exam rooms
  • Three surgical facilities: outpatient surgery center in the clinic building and two at nearby Geisinger Hospitals
  • Advanced diagnostic technologies including HVF, OCT (Zeiss with Glaucoma Workplace and Heidelberg), FA, Fundus Camera, IOL Master, Immersion, Pentacam, and Topography
  • Treatment options including SLT Laser, YAG Laser, Argon Laser, and Diode CPC
  • Support from PA-C's and SCRIBES
  • Shared home call
  • Large referral network from onsite optometrists, local ophthalmologists, and satellite offices
  • High surgical volume with opportunities for comprehensive practice including cataract and glaucoma surgery, and research at a tertiary referral center

This position allows for a growing practice with onsite comprehensive ophthalmology, cataract, and pediatric services, plus a referral network for retina, glaucoma, oculoplastics, and other subspecialties.

Position Responsibilities:

Work environment is clinical and office-based, with adherence to organizational policies and procedures. The role involves typical responsibilities outlined in departmental orientations.

Education: MD or DO required.
