Description

The faculty physician is responsible for patient care in hospital and clinics, as well as engaging in research, education, and advocacy initiatives as directed by the Division Chief and/or Center leadership.

Qualifications

Minimum Education
Medical Doctor (M.D.) degree from an accredited medical school (Required)

Required Skills/Knowledge
Knowledge of current principles, methods, and procedures for medical evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment in the area of expertise. Understanding of legal and ethical standards in medical care. Ability to evaluate patient problems independently and develop care plans. Ability to incorporate ethical concepts into patient care and communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members. Skills to supervise, advise, and train clinical professionals and students. Commitment to maintaining quality, safety, and infection control standards. Ongoing engagement in Continuing Medical Education and awareness of developments in subspecialty. Knowledge of and compliance with legal and ethical standards.

Required Licenses and Certifications
Fully licensed and credentialed physician on the medical staff of Children’s National Medical Center (Required). Board certified or eligible for certification in primary practice specialty (Required). Board certification in secondary specialty (Preferred).

  • Provide ethical, professional, and timely clinical services at Children’s Hospital and other approved sites.
  • Oversee medical care team and manage direct patient care for assigned patients; improve care continuity, customer service, and community partnerships through effective communication and timely documentation.
  • Participate in on-call duties as assigned.
  • Engage in family-centered care, communicate professionally and compassionately, and refer patients to specialists or ancillary services as needed.
  • Follow established protocols and escalation policies.
  • Respond promptly and respectfully to team members and external providers; communicate clearly about patient updates and clinical changes, encouraging questions from trainees.

  • Participate in CNMC’s advocacy efforts.
  • Contribute to public policy efforts promoting pediatric health and well-being.
  • Educate patients and families on treatment, prevention, and care techniques.
  • Engage in health promotion and education programs.

  • Conduct scientifically valuable research relevant to practice specialty.
  • Review manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.
  • Publish research findings.
  • Apply for research grants and participate in research committees and interest groups.

  • Contribute to hospital, regional, and national educational efforts.
  • Provide timely feedback and ensure proper orientation for trainees.
