Job summary

California Retina Consultants in Visalia, CA is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician. You will perform pre-exam tests, collect patient information, educate patients, and support physicians in a fast-paced ophthalmology practice.

The role includes training opportunities, a path toward clinic leadership, and a strong emphasis on patient care. Requires high school diploma, customer service experience, and travel to nearby locations as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent (Required).
• Knowledge of basic eye care (Preferred).
• Strong attention to detail.
• Effective oral and written communication.
• One or more years in a customer service type role.

Responsibilities

• Welcomes and establishes rapport with patients.
• Initiates patient evaluation and accurately documents the chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, current ocular and general medications, and all other pertinent ocular findings in accordance with compliance guidelines.
• Informs and educates patients on the purpose of tests being performed and how they will be affected during those tests.
• Performs pre-exam testing including visual acuity assessment, visual field testing, extraocular muscle assessment, pupillary evaluation, tonometry, dilation, OCT, and other tests as requested by the physician.
• Assists in efficient movement of patients through clinic flow.
• Has working knowledge of eye terminology, anatomy, pathologies, and ocular pharmacology.
• Follows triage protocol and performs opening/closing duties; maintains stock and cleanliness of exam rooms.
