Immediate opening. Ophthalmic Technician / Scribe (Retina Specialist) – Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Full-Time | No Weekends | Physician-Led Retina Practice.

Job Overview

We are actively hiring an experienced Ophthalmic Technician / Scribe to join our growing retina practice. This is not an entry-level technician role. The primary responsibility is real-time physician scribing and clinical documentation during patient visits, procedures, and treatment discussions.

Approximately 70% of this role is physician-side scribing, requiring speed, precision, clinical awareness, and the ability to keep pace with the physician while maintaining exceptional documentation accuracy. The remaining portion includes direct patient care support, including workups, diagnostic imaging, and procedural assistance when clinic flow demands it.

If you thrive in a fast-paced ophthalmology environment, understand retina terminology, and can document accurately while keeping pace with the physician, we’d love to meet you.

Compensation & Growth

Starting pay: $20 to $25 per hour (based on experience). Team members may earn up to an additional $7 per hour through certifications, continuing education, and demonstrated performance. We believe in rewarding team members who invest in themselves, continue growing professionally, and contribute positively to our culture.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide real-time physician scribing during retina clinic visits
  • Accurately document patient histories, exam findings, diagnoses, treatment plans, and procedures in Nextech MDI

    • Visual acuity
    • Medical and medication history
    • Intraocular pressure testing
    • Review of systems
  • Perform OCT imaging and other diagnostic testing as needed
  • Assist with intravitreal injections and in-office procedures
  • Prepare rooms, instruments, and supplies for patient care
  • Support efficient clinic flow and an exceptional patient experience
Required
  • Minimum 2 years of ophthalmology experience
  • Proven ophthalmic scribing experience (general medical scribing will not be considered)
  • Strong knowledge of ophthalmic terminology
  • Ability to type 50+ WPM with high accuracy
  • Excellent listening skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced environment
  • Professional, dependable, and team-oriented
Preferred
  • Retina experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with Nextech MDI
  • Experience with OCT imaging
