Job summary

Milan Eye Center in Duluth, GA is hiring an Ophthalmic Technician to support our fast-growing ophthalmology practice. This hands-on role requires accuracy in preliminary exams, diagnostic testing, and excellent patient care.

You will perform visual acuity tests, tonometry, imaging (OCT, keratometry), assist with minor procedures, educate patients on medications, and help manage inventory and scheduling. Prior experience not required but preferred; a high school diploma is required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Detail oriented and self-motivated.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in computer and EHR software.
  • Ability to be proactive and take initiative.

Responsibilities

  • Make introductions and establish rapport with patients and document chief complaint, history, review of systems, and ocular findings accurately.
  • Perform pre-exam testing including visual acuity, pinhole and glare testing, confrontational fields, extraocular muscles, pupillary evaluation, tonometry, and related tests.
  • Perform lensometry and imaging tests such as OCT, keratometry, A/B scans, and ophthalmic photography (IOP Master/Lensstar).
  • Complete prescription refills as authorized by the physician with full chart documentation.
  • Assist with minor surgical procedures or laser treatments in the office.
  • Educate patients on medications and pre-/post-operative care as directed by physicians.
  • Check expiration dates and inventory of culture plates, media, etc., and replace as necessary.
  • Maintain inventory and order diagnostic medications and supplies.
  • Screen telephone calls from patients and respond promptly to calls and pharmacy inquiries.
  • Clean and maintain instruments and ensure equipment is properly charged and stored.
  • Open/close exam lanes daily and ensure proper sanitation of equipment.
  • Follow safety procedures and perform other duties as assigned.
  • After year one, efficiently work up and assist with 15+ patients per day.
