Job summary

Eye Associates of Plantation is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to support ophthalmologists in evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of eye conditions. Responsibilities include preparing patients, collecting histories, performing diagnostic testing, and maintaining records.

The ideal candidate will have ophthalmic experience, knowledge of testing procedures, and strong communication skills to ensure a positive patient experience in a fast-paced clinical setting.

Qualifications

  • Certified Ophthalmic Technician certification or equivalent preferred.
  • At least one year of ophthalmology experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of ophthalmic equipment, terminology, testing and diagnostic procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing to a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to remain professional, compassionate, and patient-focused in a fast-paced clinical setting.
  • Basic computer skills and EMR data entry.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct preliminary eye examinations, including measuring distance and near visual acuity.
  • Refraction
  • Obtain and document the patient’s chief complaint, medical history, ocular history, medications, and other relevant clinical information.
  • Prepare patients for examination by the ophthalmologist.
  • Perform ophthalmic testing and diagnostic procedures, including tonometry, visual field testing, OCT imaging, and other testing as directed.
  • Educate patients regarding eye conditions, medications, procedures, and postoperative or follow-up care.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records in accordance with applicable medical standards and regulations.
  • Sterilize, clean, and properly maintain ophthalmic instruments and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and well-stocked clinical environment for patients, families, physicians, and staff.
  • Monitor clinical supplies, equipment, and forms, and notify the appropriate personnel when supplies need to be reordered or equipment requires cleaning or repair.
  • Follow all infection-control, patient-safety, and facility-safety policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with physicians and other team members to support efficient clinic operations and seamless patient care.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
